Tumi Ishi literally means "piled stones" in Japanese and these wooden stacking rocks have become all the rage for people of all ages. They are a popular sensory toy and learning tool for those working on fine motor skills but no age group is immune to their addictively soothing and calming nature. Often times I find that the adults spend more time using these as a form of stress relief and meditation that they end up buying themselves a set for themselves! No two towers are the same and the rocks get more challenging as they age! A set of 12 has over 500 million possible combinations!!!

The rocks vary in size from 1 to 4 inches and they vary in shapes and angles. Each set will offer a variety of sizes, shapes and species. If you are gifting this to a little one please order the 8 piece large rock set as that set will not contain any that can be a chocking hazards (Each rock will be longer than 2 inches and wider that 1 inch). The Mini Set has 18 rocks about half the size and more angles and are for those that are looking for a challenge or that are gluttons for punishment! The smaller the rocks the harder they are to stack!! The rocks are finished with Tried and True Wood Finish which is a completely food safe wood oil and then packaged in a cotton muslin bag!

These Tumi Ishi style Blocks made from mostly domestic hardwoods but can also include some exotics such as paduk, ebony and jarrah. I try to select pieces that have a lot of figure and character to make these blocks! You might find some cherry or ash burls. You might find some ambrosia or birdseye maple. These rocks are absolutely addicting and in our family we find ourselves getting competitive about how tall or how many rocks we can stack. Each bag was tested by my family to ensure that ALL the rocks could be used in a stack!!

We all need a little rescuing! Our family rescued two doodles and I started to make them their feeders, leashes and collars to show them how special they were. I am not a master carpenter... just a guy that likes to make super nice things and that thinks that slight imperfections add character and tell a story.
